This tour is centered in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, but reaches out into the surrounding mountains for day trips to some of the more notable natural areas. Discover 6 waterfalls on day hikes out of Bishkek. This tour is good for those that want to spend a little more time in the capital, exploring the night life and shopping, while also experiencing the natural beauty for which Kyrgyzstan in renown. This tour is also recommended for families with children (the longest hike is at Ala-Archa, and this day can easily be modified for less walking if necessary).
Day 1 | Bishkek
White Leopard guides will meet you at the Manas International Airport and provide transfer to a hotel in Bishkek. (30 km, 40-50 min). After having some rest, we will visit the main Bishkek city attractions, including Ala-Too Square, green parks, an open air art gallery, the Historical Museum and others as time allows. All destinations are located close to each other and afford a personal engagement with this emerging, post-Soviet capital city.
Day 2 | Ala-Archa
The National Park Ala-Archa is located 41 kilometers south of Bishkek at an altitude of 1600–4800 meters. The area of the park is more than 22 square kilometers. There is a beautiful waterfall, the height of the waterfall is about 25 meters and a width of about 5 meters. The greatest intensity of the waterfall occurs in the summer, due to the abundant melting of ice. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 2860 meters above sea level.
The walking path to the waterfall is a gradual ascent, and fairly accessible for people with even minimal hiking experience. It will take about 3-4 hours, an 8 km roundtrip.
Lunch will be provided during the hike.
We will return to Bishkek by early afternoon. For dinner we are going to the national café Navat.
Day 3 | Alamedin
Alamedin gorge is located 30 kilometers south of Bishkek, 45 min to 1 hour by car. The landscape of this narrow valley is quite diverse, characterized by the rushing Alamedin river that cuts through the center. Large rocks, scrubby forest, streams and wildflowers cover the slopes and create an interesting but easily navigable path. We will make our way to a charming, hidden waterfall that cascades down from a 15m rocky cliff. Nearby is a forest with a beautiful birch grove, where both tourists and locals like to relax.
The hike to the waterfall is approximately 1.5-2 hours. It is a gradual ascent, with the waterfall at an altitude of 2700 m.
For dinner we will take part in a Kyrgyz cuisine cooking lesson, the final result we can of course enjoy!
Day 4 | Kegeti
The gorge of Kegeti is located 90 km east of Bishkek, on the northern side of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range.
On the way to Kegeti we will visit the Burana Tower in Chui Valley, a minaret from the 11th century. It is an important historical tower from the Silk Road period. Climbing to the top is possible by a dark, narrow, stone staircase that opens up to a 360 view of the Ala-Too range. Then we will go to the waterfall in Kegeti. The height of the waterfall is about 20 meters and a five minute walk from the road.
Many plants grown in this area, including strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Wildflowers and other medicinal herbs are also in abundance, and for those that feel up for a hike, climbing around to the top of the waterfall is possible.
We will return to Bishkek for dinner at a national cafe.
Day 5 | Raspberry Canyon – Oruu Sai
Raspberry Canyon is located 40 km from Bishkek.
A small valley lesser traveled, our hike starts at an altitude of 2300m. We follow the Rasberry River up a small canyon, eventually coming upon the series of small waterfalls that are found there further up the gorge. The slopes of the gorge are overgrown with grasses and wildflowers. Archa also grows here, along with a pine grove planted by the forestry department in previous years.
Go back to Bishkek, have dinner and rest.
Day 6 | Belogorka
Belogorka is located 80 kilometers to the west of Bishkek. The gorge is famous for the 60-meter Ala-Too waterfall, the biggest in the northern regions of Kyrgyzstan. It takes about two hours to walk there, but colorful flower meadows and winding, grassy paths make the trip delightful from start to finish.
Lunch is provided during the hike, and dinner will be at the restaurant of your choice. There are many different cuisines to choose from in Bishkek!
Day 7 | Chunkurchak
Chunkurchak is located 45 kilometers to the south of Bishkek, at the source of the Alamedin River. In the spring, the gorge turns into a little Holland, because it is here that the royal tulip grows, reaching 17 centimeters in height. In Chunkurchak Gorge - the most unusual “Pigeon Waterfall” is beautiful in both the summer and winter seasons. Water falls in a crevice along steep cliffs from a height of 20 meters. On the slopes around the waterfall is an abundance of herbs, such as wild mint, thyme, and oregano.
We will have a picnic at the waterfall.
On the way to Bishkek, we will stop at the beautiful ethno restaurant “Supara” for dinner.
Day 8 | Departure
Transfer to airport and departure.
